Rosewood Coffee + Nesting Side Table Set with Stone Top in the Style of Pierre Chapo, France 1980s

$3,200.00

A 1980s French coffee + side table featuring beautifully grained rosewood frames with inlaid textured stone tops. The gentle curve of the frame-legs show excellent craftsmanship and are reminiscent of the classic lines of bentwood, a typical Mid Century trait. This design correlated heavily with Pierre Chapo’s collaboration with Maison Regain, which featured a slate tile elm wood coffee table. Unmarked. Sourced in France, 1980s.
Priced for the pair.
Pierre Chapo was a French architect and designer first interested in painting. His encounter with a shipbuilding carpenter in 1947 introduced him to wood and woodworking, and led to architectural studies at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After traveling through Scandinavia, Central America and working for a year in the United States, he returned to Paris and pursued his interest in wood, crafting furniture mainly out of solid oak, elm, ash or teak with a double concern for contemporary design and traditional know-how.
