A Danish Modern round rosewood coffee table designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in the 1960s. This rare coffee table features a stunning wavy-grained rosewood top in a rich, dark cherry hue. An industrial, cast aluminum six-point star base and tubular central column complements the monumental surface. Original gliders intact. Denmark, 1960s.
Born in Copenhagen in 1902, Arne Jacobsen studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of the Arts and went on to become one of Denmark’s most famous architects and designers.
Under the influence of Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Jacobsen began incorporating his construction quality into furniture designs. Jacobsen’s pieces are iconic examples of the striking aesthetic of designers from the 20th Century, along with their commitment to practicality and comfort. His expansive, diverse body of work has left lasting imprints on both furniture design and architecture internationally
