An iconic Space Age ‘Jetson’ chrome and leather swivel lounge chair by Bruno Mathsson for DUX in the 1970s. Resting on a round chrome pedestal base, the elegantly curved sling seat features tufted burnt orange leather upholstery, angled armrests, and canvas support. A charming bolster headrest is attached by rope and metal eyelets. This lounge chair swivels smoothly, returning back to the resting position once spun. Sweden, 1970s.
Bruno Mathsson was one of the first Scandinavian designers to embrace biomorphic forms in furniture. His early pieces, such as the Eva chair and Pernilla series, feature dramatically flowing bent beechwood frames. Mathsson was known as a perfectionist who made functionality the forefront of his iconic lounge chairs, tables, armchairs and other works. He continuously experimented and discovered improvements in form, materials and methods of design.
