A pair of 1950s French gilded brass wall sconces designed by Jean Perzel. These sconces feature two beautifully curved arms with elegant cone shaped torches. They have circular backplates with a fine beveled edge and subtly tapered frosted glass shades. When illuminated, the shades diffuse light and provide a soft, ambient glow. Jean Perzel, a German-born designer who apprenticed in stained glass, became one of the most celebrated Art Deco lighting designers, with clients including the Rothschilds, Henry Ford, and the kings of Morocco and Siam. After moving to Paris in 1910, he opened his atelier in 1923, where he crafted elegant, geometrically rich lighting fixtures that graced prestigious spaces such as the Luxembourg Cathedral and the League of Nations. His work, known for its ability to enhance rather than overpower architectural environments, earned him international acclaim and long-lasting collaborations.
