A set of four Italian 'Monk' dining chairs by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Molteni. Designed in 1974, the Monk chair is one of many distinctive and highly regarded designs from the duo. Its humble form comprises solid walnut block legs with a black leather sling seat and backrest—refined, functional, and comfortable.
Afra Bianchin & Tobia Scarpa were born in Italy in 1937 and 1935. They studied at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice and began their careers in 1958, specializing in the creation of Murano glass products.
They soon enjoyed great success, collaborating with some of the biggest names in design, including B&B Italia and Cassina. Today, their designs are exhibited in major museums around the world and have been the subject of major international exhibitions.
