A ‘Vela Bassa’ sofa from the Proposals collection attributed to Giovanni Offredi for Saporiti in the 1960s. This striking modular sofa features original cognac suede upholstery with tuft detailing. It has an angular profile and stainless steel detailing along the bottom edges. Unmarked. Sourced in Italy, 1960s.

Giovanni Offredi (1927-2007) was a prominent Italian furniture and product designer recognized for his use of angular lines and exposed wood or metal frames. He began making furniture for the wealthy elite of Milan, and these early designs showcased his mastery of simplistic elegance. In the 1960s, Offredi entered a long running partnership with Saporiti, an Italian design shop and furniture maker, which resulted in many of Offredi’s most iconic designs.
