Italian Brown Mohair Sofa with Wood Base Attributed to Paolo Buffa, 1950s
Of fine Italian manufacture, this wood and mohair sofa, attributed to the great designer Paolo Buffa, was produced in the 1950s. The structure of the sofa is entirely made of fine light solid wood, supported by four well-crafted cylindrical feet. The front base is embellished with relaxing and attractive wavy-weave fretwork. Recently reupholstered by our team of local artisans, the sofa now features a rich chocolate brown mohair fabric that is soft to the touch.
Paolo Buffa (1903–1970) defined mid-century Italian elegance with his finely crafted, sophisticated designs. His work merges neoclassical influences with modernist restraint, using luxurious materials like wood, parchment, and brass. Known for graceful proportions and delicate detailing, Buffa collaborated with master artisans, elevating traditional craftsmanship into refined, functional art. His pieces, with their understated curves and timeless appeal, remain icons of Italian design.
