French Round Ceramic Coffee Table by Roger Capron, 1960s

$4,400.00

A 1960s low coffee table by French ceramicist Roger Capron. The round wooden frame, grounded by four thick cylindrical legs, is topped with Capron’s signature ceramic tiles from Vallauris, France. The sand-hued tiles display subtle color variations and an array of sizes, forming a captivating sunburst motif.

Roger Capron redefined ceramics, infusing an ancient art form with new life and leaving a lasting mark on mid-century design. Born in 1922 in Vincennes, France, he drew inspiration from the pottery traditions of Vallauris, where he settled after studying in Paris. In 1946, he co-founded l'Atelier Callis, producing ceramics that reflected the earthy tones and geometric forms of Provence.

By the 1960s, Capron expanded beyond vases and tiles into furniture, crafting tables that were functional works of art. His work captured the essence of post-war optimism—creating something lasting, something meaningful.
