'The Caduceus' is a limited edition tapestry by the esteemed French artist Jean Cocteau. This piece captivates with its bold red backdrop, intricately woven with abstract motifs in ivory, blue, and green. One of only 100 produced, it is signed and dated 1963.

Jean Cocteau (1889–1963) was a French poet, playwright, novelist, filmmaker, and visual artist who became one of the most influential cultural figures of the 20th century. Known for his surrealist and avant-garde style, Cocteau's work spanned various forms of art, making him a versatile and multifaceted creator.

Cocteau was deeply embedded in the Parisian avant-garde scene and associated with leading figures such as Pablo Picasso, Marcel Proust, and Igor Stravinsky. His artistic output ranged from poetry, with early collections like Le Cap de Bonne-Espérance (1919), to plays like Orphée (1926), where he explored the mythical and the mystical. He also collaborated with ballet impresario Serge Diaghilev on Parade (1917), a groundbreaking work combining music by Erik Satie and costumes by Picasso.

Cocteau’s visual art, often incorporating whimsical and dreamlike elements, is characterized by fluid line drawings and a surreal aesthetic.
