French Ceramic Rooster Vase by Jules Agard, 1960s

$4,800.00

A 1960s sculptural ceramic rooster vase by French ceramicist Jules Agard. Its sinuous form and painterly brushstrokes evoke a playful spirit. Earthy tones of coffee, beige, and ivory coalesce in concentric circles, creating a rhythmic pattern that dances across its surface.

Jules Agard (1905–1986) was a master French ceramicist active from the 1940s to the 1970s. As the technical director at Atelier Madoura in Vallauris, he played a pivotal role in Picasso’s ceramics, shaping the pots that Picasso painted during their 22-year collaboration.

Known for his exceptional craftsmanship, Agard was admired even by Picasso for his skill in molding clay. Beyond his work with Picasso, he was an artist in his own right, creating his own ceramic and painted works—often figurative or abstract, inspired by mythological creatures and freeform shapes.
