Between them, a substantial central support is wrapped in dark, expressive wood grain and accented by a vertical panel of closely spaced gilt fluting. Fine gilt bands trace the edges of the top and base, emphasizing the curves without overwhelming the warmth of the wood.

A shallow open shelf runs beneath the top, creating two dark recesses on either side of a central drawer. The drawer front repeats the vertical fluting of the pedestal below, allowing a functional element to become part of the console’s larger decorative rhythm. A small round brass pull sits at its center, while the drawer itself reveals a wood-lined interior when opened.

The combination of curved geometry, contrasting finishes, and carefully controlled ornament is particularly evocative of Paolo Buffa’s work. His interiors and furniture often brought the refinement of traditional Italian cabinetmaking into a more streamlined architectural vocabulary.

What makes this console especially compelling is the way the gilt elements organize the entire composition. The vertical fluting draws the eye upward through the pedestal and drawer, while narrow horizontal bands follow the perimeter of the top and plinth. Against the deep wood, these lighter details give the piece a graphic quality that changes considerably between frontal and profile views.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0740/0135/0967/files/y29z9rSlyjYG8wd0RhfiH-Vao5j-sNFQws0OL8MYxc.jpg?v=1791236904
https://thesouthlooploft.com/products/italian-art-deco-demilune-console-in-the-manner-of-paolo-buffa-1940s
