Pair of Italian Nesting Tables in Cipollino Ondulato Marble, 1970s

$3,800.00

A sculptural duo from 1970s Italy, these nesting tables are carved from Cipollino Ondulato marble—a rare Italian stone prized for its lyrical veining and soft, striated movement. Named for its layered patterning (cipolla meaning “onion”), the marble drifts in tonal ribbons of dove grey, violet, and ivory, evoking the flow of sediment through water.

The biomorphic tops mirror the stone’s organic rhythm, their softened edges and asymmetry echoing the undulating cadence of quarried earth. Each table rests on a monolithic plinth base—quietly sturdy, yet visually weightless. Graduated in height, they nest seamlessly or stand apart as individual pedestals. Ideal for layering books and objets, anchoring a seating arrangement, or introducing a floating focal point.

DIMENSIONS: 28"W x 27"D x 16.5"H

ADDITIONAL DIMENSIONS: Small: 14.5"H; 38.5"Long Diagonal. Dimensions are per table. Overall with both side to side (as in third image) 46"W x 27"D.

ORIGIN: Italy

PERIOD: 1970s

MATERIALS: Marble

CONDITION: Great vintage condition overall, with light surface scratches. One table shows two prior repairs to the marble top—professionally executed and minimally visible, with no detectable seams or structural concerns. The second table remains in excellent condition with no noted issues. Both tops are securely affixed to their respective marble bases, and the set is sturdy and stable.
