Pair of Art Deco Silk Armchairs by Jules Leleu for La Mamounia Hotel
A beautiful pair of Art Deco armchairs designed by Jules Leleu in 1929 and re-issued in 1986 for La Mamounia hotel Marrakesh. This particular pair was re-issued for a massive re-decoration of the famed hotel, which has been considered one of the finest hotels in the world since it opened in 1923. This Grand Dame of hotels is a unique blend of Art Deco + Moorish design; which is why many works by Leleu were commissioned for the interior.
The chairs have honey hued fruitwood frames with chrome ball feet. The silk fabric is original and in fantastic condition. Retain original signature on base.
Jules Leleu began his career in the painting studio founded by his father and then devoted himself fully to interior decoration and furniture production, overseen by his brother Marcel, in the family business. His notoriety grew from 1925, thanks to the success of the furniture he designed for the French ambassador’s reception room at the Decorative Arts Exhibition. Leleu’s furnishings were inspired by the Regency and neoclassical styles of the 18th century, which he reinterpreted and simplified in their decorative apparatus.
