This chair features a sculptural profile with a wide, curved seat and tall rectangular back clad in stitched patchwork leather. It has a beautiful wicker tulip base and swivels. We love the patinated leather and contrast in materials on this vintage beauty. Unmarked. Sourced in Netherlands, 1970s.
Gerard Van Den Berg (1947-) was a Dutch designer born into a family of furniture makers. He apprenticed under his father in Hellevoetslius before founding Montis, his own furniture company, with his brother Ton in 1974. Van Den Berg’s designs challenged the traditional forms of Dutch furniture, instead focusing on manipulating materials into elegant and artful forms. In 1989, he left Montis to found LABEL, his own design studio. Van Den Berg has received various prestigious awards and is recognized today for his radical designs and promotion of Dutch furniture abroad.
