'Character' Abstract Plaster Sculpture by Gisele Lacroix, Paris 1990s
An original abstract plaster sculpture by French artist Gisèle Lacroix. This layered sculpture features a textured, porous finish in cream and off-white hues. Signed on the lower right. Paris, 1990s.
Gisèle Lacroix is a Paris-based sculptor born in Lyon, 1935. While teaching at an architecture school in Paris, she found her narrative in urban landscapes and architectural forms. Her delicate sculptures, emerging from blocks of plaster, evoke delicate silhouettes navigating through imaginary cities.
Without prior sketches, Lacroix sculpts intuitively, allowing proportions and movement to gradually take shape. Working directly with plaster, paint, and mixed media, she embraces the material’s malleability and diverse textures, sculpting characters and works that lean into the nuances of our environments - symbolizing an inevitable journey beyond time.
Lacroix's art captures a sense of fluidity and exploration, inviting viewers to venture into her charismatic world.
