French Neoclassical Wall Console Attributed to Jean Charles Moreaux, French 1940s
Purchased from a private residence near Avignon, France; this gorgeous hand carved wall console is attributed to Jean Charles Moreaux; a French Architect who graduated from e École des Beaux-arts de Paris in 1922. The console was originally a part of a dining set in a home designed by Moreaux.
The carved wood column legs have acanthus leaf and other hand carved details. The beautiful honed marble is quarried in the Languedoc region of France and has a soft red, rust, gray and white veining.
You’ll notice in the photos the console mounts to the wall with an attachment that is affixed to the underside of the wood under the table top. Additionally, at the base of the legs, where the legs are flush with the wall; there is a notch that allows the table to sit flush against a wall and the baseboard; without leaving a gap.
