'Tobio' Leather + Travertine Dining Table by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for B&B Italia, 1974

A highly elegant ‘Tobio’ dining table by designers Afra e Tobia Scarpa and produced by B&B Italia, 1974. Featuring a leather clad base with a red Persian travertine top - a wonderful combination of timeless materials and a true heritage piece.

Mr. and Mrs. Scarpa are responsible for a series of legendary pieces. They designed the Soriana chair (1970), the Jucker lamp (1963), the Bastiano series (1960), and the Monk chair (1973). Their pieces have been produced by major companies such as Knoll International and Cassina.

Afra Bianchin and Tobia Scarpa were born in Italy in 1937 and 1935, respectively. They studied at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice. They began their careers in 1958, specializing in the creation of Murano glass products. They soon enjoyed great success, collaborating with some of the biggest names in design, including B&B Italia and Cassina. They also designed stores for Benetton. Even today, the designs they created are exhibited in major museums around the world. They have also been the subject of major international exhibitions.

DIMENSIONS: Table Top: 62"W x 51”D x 30"H; .75" Thick top; Base: 17.75"W x 17.75"D x 28"H

CONDITION:  The polished travertine stone top is in very good condition with mild evidence of age and some very light surface wear. The leather base comes with 4 concrete weights that are placed inside the column of the base.
