French Ceramic Floral Motif Coffee Table by Roger Capron, 1960s

$5,200.00

A 1960s low coffee table by French ceramicist Roger Capron. Topped with Capron’s signature ceramic tiles from Vallauris, France, the geometric flower motif blooms in earthy tones, set against a rich solid wood frame. Rounded edges and a blend of matte and gloss glazes create a striking composition, while four cylindrical legs ground the piece. Incised stamp, ‘Capron Vallauris France’ on tabletop.

Roger Capron redefined ceramics, infusing an ancient art form with new life and leaving a lasting mark on mid-century design. Born in 1922 in Vincennes, France, he drew inspiration from the pottery traditions of Vallauris, where he settled after studying in Paris. In 1946, he co-founded l'Atelier Callis, producing ceramics that reflected the earthy tones and geometric forms of Provence.

By the 1960s, Capron expanded beyond vases and tiles into furniture, crafting tables that were functional works of art. His work captured the essence of post-war optimism—creating something lasting, something meaningful.
