Italian Blue Ceramic 'Whistle' Vase by Franco Bucci for Laboratorio Pesaro, 1970s

$2,000.00

A 1970s Italian ‘Whistle’ vase designed by Franco Bucci for Laboratorio Pesaro. This ceramic vessel features a gradation of soft blue glazes with hints of chocolate brown. The modern, spherical silhouette features two openings, resembling whistles. Signed along the underside.

Franco Bucci (1933–2002) was an influential Italian ceramicist known for his minimalist designs and innovative material experimentation. After graduating from the Ferruccio Mengaroni Art Institute, Bucci began his career teaching enamel on metal. By the late 1950s, he transitioned to ceramics, collaborating with Villeroy & Boch and Federigo Fabbrini.

He co-founded the Laboratorio Pesaro in 1961, where as artistic director, he developed a distinctive style characterized by pure, essential forms and a restrained color palette. His works gained international recognition, including a silver medal at the 1960 Milan Triennale and an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1972.

In the 1980s, Bucci began creating monolithic ceramic slabs using a patented technique and later pursued innovations in porcelain. In his later years, he founded a workshop for small-batch and unique ceramic pieces and helped establish the Terracottas Museum in Fratterosa, celebrating Italy's ceramic heritage. Bucci’s legacy lies in his timeless designs and technical mastery, which continue to inspire the ceramic arts.
