French Wrought-Iron + Bronze Mirror Coffee Table, 1940s
A French wrought-iron coffee table from the 1940s, with a long, open silhouette and a bronze mirrored top that brings warmth and reflection to its frame.
Beneath the surface, a continuous row of U-shaped iron loops forms the apron, repeating around all four sides. The pattern has the rhythm of a small balustrade, allowing light and the room beyond to pass through. At each corner, a broader curved shoulder joins the top to a slender, tapered leg, ending in a subtly flared square foot.
The iron bears a textured, varied patina, moving between deep brown and warmer rust tones. These irregularities give depth to the precise arrangement of loops, with the character of the metal visible along their edges and across the shaped corner supports.
Custom cut to fit the frame, the bronze mirror follows the rectangular outline and clipped corners. A beveled perimeter catches the light, defining the edge with a narrow reflective border. Its warm tint lends a softer cast to reflections of objects, lighting, and the surrounding room.
Set before a sofa or between facing seats, the table offers a generous surface while keeping the floor beneath it visible. The repeated ironwork gives it presence from every side, while the mirrored top introduces a changing layer of light above the aged frame.
