Monumental French Black Iron + Glass Lantern Pendant, 1960s
At nearly three feet tall, this 1960s French lantern pendant has a scale we don’t often come across. The elongated iron frame and tapered glass panels feel more architectural than a typical hanging fixture, especially when suspended low over a table or given room to hang in an entryway.
We sourced the lantern near Nice, France, where it was originally made for outdoor use. A specialist in France later restored and converted it for use indoors, while preserving the aged black finish and patina of the iron.
Its original purpose is still evident in the scale and construction, which is part of what makes it so interesting used indoors today.
