Italian Art Deco Murano Glass Table Lamp Attributed to Napoleone Martinuzzi, 1930s

$3,800.00

Standing over twenty inches tall, an Italian Murano glass table lamp from the 1930s, attributed to Napoleone Martinuzzi.

The lamp is defined by its generous urn-shaped silhouette, a form rooted in classical tradition yet reimagined through the lens of Italian Art Deco. Crafted in Murano glass with a warm ivory tone, the surface possesses a quiet luminosity, allowing light to settle gently across its curves rather than compete for attention.

Delicately formed scroll handles frame the body, introducing a subtle decorative rhythm that enhances the simplicity of the silhouette. Elevated on a flared pedestal base, the proportions feel balanced and architectural, giving the piece a sense of permanence despite the delicacy of its material.

Attributed to Napoleone Martinuzzi, one of Murano's most influential designers of the early twentieth century, the lamp reflects a period when Venetian glassmaking embraced sculptural purity alongside exceptional craftsmanship.

Napoleone Martinuzzi (1892–1977) was born into a family of Venetian glassmakers, and trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, Martinuzzi brought a sculptor’s understanding of form, volume, and proportion to the world of Venetian glass. His work bridged classical inspiration with modernist experimentation, transforming glass into a bold, expressive medium rather than simply a decorative craft.

In 1925, Martinuzzi became artistic director of Venini, where he introduced groundbreaking techniques and developed his signature pulegoso glass, characterized by its dense, organic bubbles and sculptural texture. Through his innovative approach to color, form, and material, he helped redefine Murano glass in the twentieth century, leaving a lasting legacy as a pioneer whose creations continue to be celebrated for their architectural presence and artistic vision.
