French Neoclassical Engraving of a Roman Soldier, 19th Century
A 19th-century Neoclassical engraving, sourced in the South of France. The image was originally drawn by Giovanni Domenico Campiglia (delin.) and later engraved by Michael Sorello (scul.), following the classical tradition of separating draftsmanship from printmaking. The print depicts a Roman figure—Miles, or soldier—rendered in precise, linear detail.
The engraving is housed in its original worn wood frame and backed in fleur-de-lis paper—a nod to its French provenance.
