Rare Modular Sofa by Günter Sulz, Germany 1970s

$8,400.00

A rare modular sofa conceptualized by the German designer Günter Sulz in 1973.

The sofa has a gorgeous, almost 'Modern Hamptons' like feel but surprisingly is not filled with foam or down - it has inflatable cushions. Behr + Sulz, a German furniture company co-founded by designer Günter Sulz, was known for producing innovative and modern furniture in the 1970s. The company's production focused on functional, modular designs that were both aesthetically pleasing and practical and innovative.

Günter Sulz, despite shying away from the public eye, won Germanys International Design award in 1972, where he was recognized for his forward-thinking approach to furniture, emphasizing both form and functionality.

The sofa sits comfortably and is not delicate in sit or feel. The canvas cushions connect with hand dyed cords that connect through a series of eyelets. The cushions and back rests are modular, so this can be configured also as a corner sofa or as lounge chairs.

This sofa was produced in very limited quantities.
