‘Tomo’ Floor Lamp by Toshiyuki Kita for Luci Illuminazione, 1984

$2,900.00

The ‘Tomo’ floor lamp was designed by Toshiyuki Kita in 1984 for Italian lighting manufacturer Luci Illuminazione. Its minimalist metal frame, offered in various color combinations, was designed to allow full directional adjustment. One of the most distinctive elements is the red ball attached to the lamp's black powder-coated arm, which acts as a dimmer control. This model gained attention in design literature, including a feature in the January 1984 issue of Domus magazine.

Japanese industrial designer Toshiyuki Kita, born in Osaka in 1942, brought an organic, sculptural approach to design. After studying at Naniwa Design College, he briefly worked in product development for an aluminum company before founding his own studio in 1967. His breakout piece, the Saruyama Chair for Moroso, was a bold departure, inspired by nature’s forms—icebergs, canyons, mountains—shaped to cradle the body. A master of transforming raw inspiration into functional art, Kita’s designs embody ergonomic precision.
