Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced Lighting Restorationist to join our team and work on-site in our Chicago showroom and workshop. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in rewiring vintage lighting, including chandeliers, sconces, table lamps, and other unique fixtures. Many of our pieces require welding, modifications, and intricate repairs, so technical proficiency is essential. Experience with finishing techniques such as patina application, polishing, and surface restoration would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Rewire and restore vintage and antique lighting fixtures to meet modern safety standards while maintaining their original integrity.

• Assess and troubleshoot electrical issues with various types of fixtures, including European and specialty lighting.

• Perform structural repairs, including welding and modifications, to ensure the durability and functionality of each piece.

• Collaborate with our design and inventory teams to provide accurate timelines for restoration projects.

• Maintain an organized, safe, and clean workspace, ensuring all projects are completed with precision and attention to detail.

• Apply finishing techniques, such as polishing, patina work, and paint touch-ups, to enhance the aesthetic appeal of restored fixtures.

• Source and order necessary parts, materials, and components to complete restoration projects.

• Provide expertise and recommendations for modifications or customizations based on client needs.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in lighting restoration is required; applicants without prior experience will not be considered.

• Strong knowledge of electrical wiring, UL compliance standards, and lighting fixture construction.

• Proficiency in welding, soldering, and metal fabrication techniques.

• Ability to work with delicate vintage materials, such as brass, glass, and ceramic.

• Experience in surface finishing, including cleaning, polishing, and refinishing.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with European lighting and conversion techniques.

• Knowledge of vintage lighting history, styles, and manufacturers.

• Experience in custom lighting fabrication and adaptations.
