Oak Secretary Desk Attributed to Robert Guillerme, France 1960s

$5,800.00

A 1960s French secretary desk constructed of beautifully grained solid oak in a warm, honey hue. This piece features eight lower drawers adorned with aqua-toned metal pulls and a spacious top shelf — perfect for styling books and trinkets. The fascinating two-toned rectangular drop front writing surface opens with a clover-shaped key to reveal one central shelf. Attributed to the celebrated French designer Robert Guillerme. Unmarked. France, 1960s.

Robert Guillerme studied design and architecture at the École Boule, graduating in 1934. Guillerme placed equal emphasis on function and aesthetics — creating a look as simple as it was interesting. His work was distinctively conservative and recognizable from project to project, both in form as well as medium— often utilizing waxed oak, lightening or darkening the surface to the same few tones. Guillerme possessed a limitless creative ambition, producing designs for everything from grand dressers and sideboards to the smallest elements of a space, such as pedestals, shelving, benches, and lighting.
