Italian Art Deco Parchment Console, 1940s
An Italian Art Deco parchment console from the 1940s, with a long, shallow top balanced above two sweeping supports. The top is finished in warm honey-toned parchment, divided by fine dark seams into a geometric arrangement of triangles and border panels.
Clipped corners soften the rectangular outline, while mottled variations across the parchment. Below, layered wooden edges are separated by a narrow black band, emphasizing the console’s horizontal proportions. A deeper wooden apron introduces rich brown grain, its lower edge traced with another fine dark molding. These repeated lines give the top definition without distracting from the base.
The two supports are broad at the shoulders, curving outward before tapering toward small black scroll feet. Pale parchment covers their front faces, framed by warm wood that follows each elongated curve.
Rounded inner corners beneath the apron soften the opening between them, allowing the wall behind to become part of the composition. Along a living room wall, its shallow profile offers space for collected objects while leaving the room open.
