This role combines design experience with meticulous project management and requires a deep understanding of design principles, hands-on experience in interior design or furniture restoration, and a knack for detail that aligns with our brand’s big picture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead visual merchandising initiatives to develop captivating and inspirational displays that showcase South Loop Loft’s distinctive brand and aesthetic values within our 6,000 square foot showroom.

  • Direct the design aspects of restoration projects, including the procurement of period-appropriate fabrics for vintage chairs and sofas, and the selection of lampshades for table and floor lamps to ensure historical accuracy and style consistency.

  • Coordinate detailed design tasks necessary for the framing and installation of artwork.

  • Supervise the selection and specification of backplates and canopies for lighting fixtures to enhance overall design integrity.

  • Contribute to the Design Direction of our inventory, verifying that each piece meets the brand’s high standards and fulfills client expectations.

  • Partner with vendors and artisans to achieve the highest standards of quality and consistency across all design and restoration endeavors.

  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to timelines and project specifications without sacrificing quality.

  • Collaborate closely with our Inventory Team, frequently working at our Warehouse and Showroom, overseeing a Design Assistant, engaging in inventory management upon the arrival of our European containers, taking measurements, and occasionally overseeing order fulfillment.

  • Assist in Product Development and Prototyping efforts to expand and refine our product offerings.

  • Oversee and update inventory adjustments within our Inventory Database.

  • Efficiently manage and submit expenses related to restoration projects and coordinate with accounting to ensure accurate cost tracking.

  • Lead the organization of our fabric library.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience on a design team, either leading product development or custom furniture design and project management.

  • Advanced project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and external partners.

  • A keen eye for design and meticulous attention to detail, understanding that excellence in our field is in the details.

  • Knowledge of textile properties; examples include: understanding the Martindale test, differentiating between gimp and welt, and knowing brands with the softest mohair.

  • Knowledge of current design trends and a deep understanding of historical design elements.

  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.

  • Must be willing and able to work extensively and with accuracy within our Inventory Database.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Fine Arts, or related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for educational qualifications.
