Italian Art Deco Rosewood Veneer Console with Vegan Leather Drawers + Glass Top, 1940s

$6,400.00

An Italian Art Deco console table from the 1940s, reminiscent of designs by Osvaldo Borsani. Crafted from rich rosewood veneer, this piece features six drawers covered in ivory vegan leather and accented by round wooden pulls. Its tiered surface is topped with black opaline glass. The architectural base is defined by curved supports and a linear foundation, creating a harmonious and thoughtfully proportioned form.

Osvaldo Borsani (1911–1985) was an Italian designer and architect born into a family of fine furniture makers. He studied fine arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan before pursuing architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. In 1943, he designed his own house in Varedo, Villa Borsani, which has since been preserved and serves as an archive of his work.

In 1953, Borsani and his twin brother founded Tecno, a design research and technology center, which would go on to produce a range of iconic 20th-century pieces. He was deeply influenced by the Modernist movement and collaborated with a variety of avant-garde artists on interior and furniture design projects. Borsani passed away in 1985 in Milan and is regarded as one of the most innovative designers of the 20th century.
