Model 807' Cognac Leather Sofa by Frederik Kayser for Vatne Møbler, Norway 1960s

A Scandinavian Modern 'Model 807' cognac leather sofa designed by Frederik Kayser for Vatne Møbler in the 1960s. This four-seat sofa rests on two solid rosewood shaker legs and features original cognac leather upholstery with a beautiful, natural patina throughout. The combination of down filled cushions, and soft, lived-in leather makes this low profile sofa incredibly comfortable. Maker’s mark present on underside. Norway, 1960s.

Fredrik A. Kayser’s elegant, functional seating, credenzas, and tables made him one of the most famous Scandinavian Modern furniture designers of the 20th Century. Beginning his career as an apprentice-level carpenter, Kayser had his first design produced at the age of 15.

Kayser’s pieces won several awards, including first prize in the Industry Council for Furniture and Furnishing Industry’s chair competition for his Model 711 series in the 1960s. In 1968, his Model 108 easy chair also won the Award for Design Excellence and was later featured at the Collection Price Furniture Fair in 1983. Contemporary versions of Kayser’s iconic designs are still in production today.
