Antique French Art Nouveau Faux Bamboo Cast Iron Coat Rack
A French Art Nouveau coat rack from the late 19th century.
Cast in iron and modeled to resemble bamboo, the structure rises with the rhythm and irregularity of living growth. Every rail, joint, and support mimics the segmented form of cane, reflecting the Art Nouveau fascination with organic lines and the decorative possibilities found in the natural world. The surface retains a warm painted finish that emphasizes the structure of the casting, allowing the piece to read as much as architecture as furniture.
Its design also reveals the influence of Chinoiserie, a style that captivated European designers through its romanticized vision of East Asian forms and motifs. The bamboo framework, geometric latticework, and elevated silhouette evoke the garden pavilions and decorative screens that inspired many French interiors of the period. At the center, a shaped mirror introduces reflection and light, lending depth to the otherwise linear composition.
Though conceived as a coat rack, the piece functions as a complete hall stand. Hooks crown the upper section, while integrated trays at the base provide a place for umbrellas, canes, or everyday objects. The arrangement is practical, yet every element is treated as part of a larger decorative composition.

Our White Glove service includes delivery inside the home (including one flight of stairs). Once the shippers are in your region, they will contact you beforehand to provide the delivery day and time window. Standard lead time is 3-5 weeks.
Ensure a clear path and be available to sign for the delivery. The team cannot move existing furniture. Rural deliveries may experience longer wait times due to limited routing. Alert us if there are additional stairs, COI requirements or other unique circumstances.

In-stock inventory ships via UPS, USPS, or FedEx within 5-10 business days (excluding holidays). Rates are calculated based on the full order value, size and region.
