Antique Moroccan Hand-Carved Sofa with Bone Inlay

$4,600.00

A Moroccan hand-carved Moorish sofa from the early 1900s, where carving, inlay, and textile converge.

The frame is carved in dense, rhythmic patterns drawn from Moorish architectural language—interlacing arches, geometric perforations, and repeating motifs that soften the visual weight of the wood while reinforcing its structure. Along the crest and arms, bone inlay traces the carved lines with a subtle brightness, catching light in small, deliberate intervals and heightening the depth of the carving beneath it. Decorative nailhead tacks punctuate the perimeter, introducing a metallic cadence that binds upholstery to frame.

Raised on turned supports that lift it just enough from the floor, the seat is upholstered in a mustard-toned needlecord fabric, its fine vertical ribbing offering a textile counterpoint to the complexity of the woodwork. The color sits between earth and pigment—warm, grounded, and slightly sun-faded in character—softening the density of the structure and giving the piece a more lived, domestic presence.
