Belgian Wrought Iron + Zodiac Motif Red Ceramic Tile Coffee Table, 1950s
A Belgian coffee table from the 1950s, a piece that brings texture, pattern, and warmth into a room.
The elongated rectangular top is composed of maroon enameled ceramic tiles, each individually set within a finely worked wrought iron frame. Rich in colour and subtle variation, the glazed surface catches the light differently across each tile, while a series of zodiac motifs emerge throughout the composition, introducing moments of symbolism and ornament without overwhelming the overall form.
The slender wrought iron base provides a refined counterpoint to the weight of the ceramic top. Gently twisted legs lend movement, balancing strength with a sense of lightness that reflects the craftsmanship of mid-century Belgian metalwork.
