Danish Abstract Motif Ceramic Vase by Noomi Backhausen for Soholm Stentøj, 1970s

$2,200.00

A large 1970s ceramic vase by Noomi Backhausen for Søholm Stentøj, the historic Danish workshop founded on the island of Bornholm in 1835—a place long regarded as the heart of Scandinavian ceramics. Standing 16 inches tall, the vessel’s gently rounded form carries the quiet confidence of Danish modernism. Hand-painted circular motifs in sienna and misted blue drift across an ivory ground, evoking the horizon lines and muted landscapes of the Baltic coast.

Backhausen’s work captures the meeting point of art and nature, where geometry softens into gesture and glaze becomes atmosphere. Her pieces for Søholm embody the Nordic spirit of craft—restrained, tactile, and deeply human—transforming simple earthenware into an object of meditative beauty.
