Danish Teak Bow-Front Credenza Attributed to Svend Madsen, 1960s

$5,800.00

A 1960s Danish Modern bow-front credenza attributed to Svend Madsen. Crafted from warm-toned teak, its elegantly curved profile softens the rectilinear tradition of mid-century cabinetry. The four flat-panel doors open to reveal interior shelving, while tapered legs lend the piece a light, elevated presence. Madsen’s signature detailing—subtle curvature and refined joinery—is evident in this piece.

Svend Åge Madsen was a defining voice in Scandinavian modernism. His legacy is preserved through his masterfully crafted furniture—sleek, functional, and distinctly Danish in its refinement. Active from the late 1950s through the 1960s, Madsen collaborated with esteemed cabinetmakers such as K. Knudsen & Son, H.P. Hansen, Sigurd Hansen Møbelfabrik, Karl Lindegaard, and Moreddi.

Working primarily in rich, organic woods like teak, walnut, and rosewood, Madsen’s designs are marked by graceful curves and subtle slopes, softening the linearity of traditional mid-century forms. His desks, armchairs, and credenzas remain highly sought after, a testament to his mastery of material and enduring influence on Danish design.
