French Art Deco Alabaster + Gilt Bronze Pendant, 1920s - 2 Available

$5,000.00

A French Art Deco pendant from the 1920s, built around the warm glow of alabaster.

Suspended from a gilt bronze frame, the form is defined by a shallow alabaster bowl, its surface softly veined and quietly luminous even when unlit. A border of repeating gilt bronze leaves wraps the rim, giving definition to the otherwise smooth expanse of stone, while three slender supports rise toward a foliate canopy above.

In the early decades of electric lighting, French makers turned to alabaster for its ability to temper brightness. Rather than exposing the bulb, the material diffuses light into a warm, even glow, softening the atmosphere of a room. Here, the stone has been carefully hollowed and shaped, a process that requires precision to achieve both translucency and structure.

When illuminated, the pendant becomes less an object and more a presence. The light settles into the alabaster, radiating outward in a way that flatters both space and surface. It hangs with authority—suited to an entry, a dining room, or any space where light is meant to gather.

A piece that reflects a moment in French design when new technology met traditional material, chosen not simply to light a room, but to shape how it is experienced.

Sold and priced individually.
