French Art Deco Maroon Mohair Club Chair, 1940s - 2 Available
A French Art Deco club chair from the 1940s, with an enveloping curved back and maroon mohair that brings depth to its compact form.
The back flows into the arms in a continuous sweep, enclosing a generous seat cushion. An exposed wood border follows this curve, rising to a shaped crest with small carved botanical details at either side. The ornament is concentrated here, drawing attention to the chair’s outline while leaving the upholstery uninterrupted.
The mohair gives that silhouette a softer dimension. Its dense pile catches the light unevenly, moving between deep wine and warmer russet tones across the back, arms, and piped cushion. Upholstered around the exterior as well, the chair carries the same richness when viewed from behind.
Below, a finely grooved wood apron traces the seat, and tapered, fluted front legs lift the body off the floor. These details give the chair a sense of refinement without diminishing the inviting fullness of its upholstery.
Beside a fireplace, in a bedroom, or drawn into a living room seating arrangement, it creates a place to settle. The curved enclosure, expressive woodwork, and richly colored mohair give it the presence to hold a corner of a room on its own.
