French Bronze Saint Gobain Glass Console, 1979
A French glass console, custom designed for an architect's office in 1979 and sourced in Paris.
Stretching nearly seven and a half feet in length, the console is defined by its remarkable scale and clarity of construction. Three curved glass supports carry the composition with an almost weightless presence, while a chromed metal rod introduces a precise structural rhythm. Rather than concealing its engineering, the design allows each element to contribute to the overall composition.
The tabletop and lower shelves are crafted from bronze glass produced by Saint-Gobain, whose history of glassmaking extends back to 1693. The warm tint softens reflections, lending depth and richness. It is the same manufacturer that supplied the mirrors for the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, a legacy of craftsmanship that continues through the exceptional quality of the material.
The transparency of the glass allows light to move freely through the structure, giving the console an unexpected lightness despite its impressive scale.
