French Carved Wood Slipper Chair in the Manner of René Prou, 1940s - 2 Available

$3,000.00

A French slipper chair from the 1940s, created in the manner of René Prou.

The silhouette is low and gently exaggerated, with a tall, tapering back that curves softly as it rises. There is a subtle playfulness to the proportions—restrained, but unmistakably intentional—giving the chair a sense of movement even at rest.

The sculpted wood base is particularly well handled, shaped with softened curves that lend the chair a grounded but fluid presence. Rather than relying on elaborate carving, the design allows contour and proportion to define the piece. Cabriole-inspired legs sweep outward lightly, introducing rhythm beneath the upholstered body and creating a sense of lift despite the chair’s scale.

Retaining its original fabric, the upholstery serves more as surface than statement, allowing the architecture of the chair itself to hold attention. Placed within a bedroom, beside a fireplace, or as part of a layered seating arrangement, the chair introduces a distinctly French sensibility.

A piece chosen as much for the line it creates within a room as for the function it serves.

Sold and priced individually.
