French 'Cuvette' Square Ceramic Coffee Table by Roger Capron, 1960s

$25,800.00

A rare 1960s ‘Cuvette’ coffee table by French ceramicist Roger Capron. This piece features a square concave tabletop clad in earthenware ceramic tiles from Vallauris, France. The tiles have rich color variations, which include a range of ivory, sand, and chocolate brown hues. It stands on rectangular patinated steel block legs.

Roger Capron redefined ceramics, infusing an ancient art form with new life and leaving a lasting mark on mid-century design. Born in 1922 in Vincennes, France, he drew inspiration from the pottery traditions of Vallauris, where he settled after studying in Paris. In 1946, he co-founded l'Atelier Callis, producing ceramics that reflected the earthy tones and geometric forms of Provence.

By the 1960s, Capron expanded beyond vases and tiles into furniture, crafting tables that were functional works of art. His work captured the essence of post-war optimism—creating something lasting, something meaningful.
