Designed by Roger Capron, a French Garrigue ceramic tile coffee table from the 1960s, the form low and expansive, scaled to invite gathering, conversation, and display.
The tabletop is composed of applied Garrigue tiles, each adorned with Capron’s signature bird motifs—whimsical yet precise, introducing movement and narrative across the planar surface. Warm earth tones and subtle glazes create depth, echoing the sun-drenched landscapes of Provence from which the design draws inspiration.
A simple metal frame supports the ceramic surface, its geometry disciplined and unobtrusive, allowing the tiles to remain the focus. The juxtaposition of sturdy structure and delicate imagery embodies a balance between utility and artistry.
Roger Capron (1922–2006) redefined ceramics in the postwar era, breathing new vitality into an ancient craft. After studying in Paris, he settled in Vallauris in 1946, co-founding l’Atelier Callis and working alongside contemporaries like Picasso and Jean Derval. Capron absorbed the region’s pottery traditions and translated them into modern forms—tiles, vessels, and eventually furniture that married utility with artistry.
By the 1960s, his tables were no longer mere surfaces but compositions—landscapes of glazed stoneware that carried the warmth of Provence into the modern home. They spoke to optimism: durable, joyful, meaningful. This piece, with its blooming motif, stands as both functional furniture and ceramic art, a lasting testament to Vallauris’ legacy and Capron’s singular vision.

Our White Glove service includes delivery inside the home (including one flight of stairs). Once the shippers are in your region, they will contact you beforehand to provide the delivery day and time window. Standard lead time is 3-5 weeks.
Ensure a clear path and be available to sign for the delivery. The team cannot move existing furniture. Rural deliveries may experience longer wait times due to limited routing. Alert us if there are additional stairs, COI requirements or other unique circumstances.
