French Gilt Bronze Leaf Motif Coffee Table by Jacques Duval Brasseur, 1970s
A French coffee table by Jacques Duval Brasseur from the 1970s, where nature is reimagined in bronze.
The circular glass top appears to float above a gilt bronze base, its transparency allowing the composition beneath to remain fully in view. Cast to resemble the branching form of a tree, the pedestal rises organically before dividing into three sweeping supports, each adorned with finely modelled leaves that emerge from the structure as though growing naturally from the trunk. The gilt finish has mellowed with time, developing a rich patina that brings warmth and depth to the textured bronze.
The base is defined by movement rather than symmetry. Every branch, leaf, and contour has been carefully considered, creating shifting silhouettes as the table is viewed from different angles. The clear glass top provides visual lightness, balancing the expressive quality of the bronze while allowing the craftsmanship to remain the focal point.
