French Hand-Forged Wrought Iron 8-Light Chandelier, 1940s

$4,600.00

A French hand-forged wrought iron chandelier from the 1940s.

Suspended from an iron chain, the chandelier unfolds outward with a deliberate symmetry. Eight scrolling arms extend from the central frame, their curves drawn with the looseness and irregularity that come only through hand-forging. Aged verdigris softens the surface, introducing layers of muted green and brown patina that speak to time and exposure.

The finish settles into the recesses of the metalwork, emphasizing the texture of the forged scrolls and giving depth to the piece even when unlit. Black tapered shades create contrast against the weathered surface, sharpening the profile while tempering the chandelier’s scale.

Though substantial in presence, the open framework allows light and shadow to move easily through the form. Over a dining table, it creates intimacy beneath high ceilings. In an entryway, it introduces a sense of age and permanence, as though it has always belonged to the room.

A chandelier that reflects the enduring character of mid-century French craftsmanship—chosen not simply for illumination, but for the atmosphere it creates around it.
