French Ink + Gouache on Paper Painting by Miodrag Vojić No. 03, 1950s

$2,400.00

A French ink and gouache on paper painting by Miodrag “Milo” Vojić from the 1950s.

Rendered in shades of cobalt, turquoise, violet, and black, the composition balances graphic linework with a softer, more fluid hand. The stylized face is broken into curved forms and geometric patterning, giving the work a playful rhythm while still feeling distinctly mid-century.

The contrast between the bold black outlines and washes of saturated color gives the painting its movement. Framed simply in black, it brings color and a more playful energy into a room.

Born in Serbia in 1923, Miodrag “Milo” Vojic trained at the Belgrade Academy before the upheavals of World War II interrupted his studies. By 1949 he had traded post‑war austerity for the blazing palette of the South of France, settling between Nice and Avignon. There he absorbed the jazz‑like immediacy of post‑war modernism—Matisse’s cut‑outs, Picasso’s beach sketches—while exhibiting in regional salons and Riviera galleries throughout the 1950s and ’60s.

Vojic signed many of his intimate gouaches with the compact monogram “V·j”, reserving his full surname for larger canvases. Today his Mediterranean period (1958‑65) is the most sought‑after at auction, prized for its joyous color and graphic economy.
