French Metal Tray Table in the Manner of Mathieu Matégot, 1970s

$650.00

A French metal tray table, from the 1970s, in the manner of Mathieu Matégot, composed of patinated and lacquered metal in a palette of charcoal, canary yellow, and copper.

A perforated sheet metal tray is set above four slender, twisted legs. The perforation brings a sense of lightness to the solid geometry, allowing the surface beneath to remain partially visible and giving the piece a subtle play of shadow.

Cylinder handles punctuate the tray at either end, introducing a small architectural detail. Beneath, a central bronze-toned fitting gathers the four legs, its warm finish creating a deliberate contrast against the cooler painted metal.

Used beside a sofa or chair, it functions as an intimate surface without feeling purely utilitarian. In a room, the open metalwork and slender silhouette allow it to sit lightly, while the charcoal, yellow, and copper tones introduce just enough color to give the piece presence.
