French Oak Armchair in Dove Gray Teddy Upholstery, 1940s - 2 Available

$6,400.00

A French oak armchair from the 1940s, shaped with the solidity that defined much of the period’s provincial furniture.

Crafted in solid oak, the frame carries a sense of permanence through its thick proportions and softened edges, where decades of use have worn the timber into a warmer, more tactile surface. The arms sit broad and grounded, while the carved scroll details at the sides introduce a subtle decorative rhythm without interrupting the restraint of the form.

Recently reupholstered in a dove gray teddy fabric, the chair takes on a different character through texture alone. The richly woven surface softens the architecture of the oak, creating a contrast between structure and comfort. Light catches across the fabric unevenly, giving the piece depth and warmth despite its muted tone.

In a reading corner, it becomes an anchor point. Paired beside a fireplace or layered into a quieter interior, it brings weight, texture, and softness in equal measure.

A piece that reflects the balance often found in French interiors of the era—where utility was never separated from atmosphere, and furniture was chosen as much for how it shaped a room as for how it was used.

Sold and priced individually.
