French Oak Daybed with Linen Upholstery by Guillerme et Chambron No. 01, 1960s
A French oak daybed from the 1960s by Guillerme et Chambron, with spindled ends, low architectural form, and ivory linen upholstery.
Crafted in solid oak, the form is low and architectural, defined by softly angled sides and a rhythmic arrangement of vertical spindles that frame each end like open screens. The proportions are deliberate—broad enough to anchor a room, yet visually light through the openness of the structure. Rounded legs and gently softened edges reveal the hand of the maker.
The new custom mattress introduces a sense of comfort without disturbing the clarity of the silhouette. Reupholstered in ivory linen by Mokum, the surface adds softness against the grain of the oak, allowing texture and material to remain the focus. A cylindrical bolster completes the composition, reinforcing the horizontal line of the piece while giving it the relaxed character of a daybed intended for living rather than display.
Its versatility defines how it inhabits a space. In a sitting room, it becomes a place to recline and gather. In a studio or library, it reads almost as built architecture—something between seating and interior structure. At the foot of a bed or beneath a window, it extends the room outward, creating a quieter place within it.
Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron, both trained at the École Boulle, created work grounded in authenticity, balance, and craft—now synonymous with French 20th-century design.
