French Saint-Gobain Glass + Leather Accent Chair by Maison Jansen, 1960s

$6,800.00

A rare and sculptural armchair by Maison Jansen, France, circa 1960s. This chair is crafted of curved Saint-Gobain tempered glass with a matte aluminum pedestal base and original tufted leather cushions. The smoked-glass seatback and base are cold-bent into a fluid S‑curve—an advanced technique at the time—while the soft geometry of the base recalls Jansen’s custom commissions for avant-garde interiors and private institutions across Europe and the Middle East.

Maison Jansen, best known for its opulent interiors and furnishings for royalty and statesmen, also ventured into modernist experimentation during the 1960s. This chair is one of few known examples that embody that shift. The Saint-Gobain glass, typically reserved for architectural uses, underscores the studio’s commitment to innovation in both form and fabrication.

The result is both radical and refined: a minimalist silhouette enriched by an unusually luxe palette. A collector's piece that bridges decorative art and design history.
