Helicoid Staircase Model M400 by Roger Tallon, France 1964

$36,000.00

An extraordinary Helicoid model M400 staircase by French designer Roger Tallon, 1964. Tallon originally designed this piece for Gallery Lacloche Edition in Paris and it has since become a piece of design history.  This iconic staircase features a steel central pole, on which twelve polished cast aluminum paddle shaped steps are affixed in a spiral. The bottom landing step is slightly larger. Each step has a textured circular black rubber inlay and the staircase sits on a landing pad.

This piece was designed to be modular; additional steps can be added or removed, allowing it to be easily adjusted for a range of spaces. Our staircase has 12 steps included. The Helicoid staircase exemplifies Tallon’s industrial, playful aesthetic + transforms a functional necessity into a timeless sculptural centerpiece. This piece is in the permanent collection at the MoMA in New York. Unmarked. Sourced in France, 1960s.
